Interview conducted by: Bud Wayne, Editorial Executive, CEOCFOinterviews.com, Published – October 28, 2011
Mr. Kaiser:
I joined AirTouch Communications in March of 2010. I was immediately
attracted to the vision of our founder, Hide Kanakubo, to become the
wireless (cellular) home gateway provider for the world, and particularly
for emerging markets.
We are not currently providing landline or cellular services, but we have created both Global System for Mobile Communications (GSM) and Code Division Multiple Access (CDMA) models to work with major U.S. carriers and are in the process of rolling out cordless cellular phones that will work in foreign countries.
Our first generation phone is certified for use on most major US carrier networks including Verizon Wireless, AT&T and Sprint. We are now in the process of certifying our second-generation phones.
CEOCFO:
You just signed an agreement with LightSquared; would you tell us about
that? Mr. Kaiser: LightSquared is the first wholesale-only 4G-LTE wireless network operator with satellite coverage. Our vision is to leverage the patented technology in our hardware and become a mobile virtual network operator (MVNO). This agreement with LightSquared moves us closer to that goal.
CEOCFO:
What is your business
model? Are you marketing your product to the consumer or are they sold
through distributors? Mr. Kaiser: We sell directly to wireless carriers and major distributors and dealers located throughout the world.
CEOCFO:
How do you reach your wireless carrier customers? Mr. Kaiser: We have the top business development people in all of the major distribution markets we have identified. Our CEO and sales staff have personally visited every major carrier that we would like to distribute our products too. A major part of our business plan is to continue to develop relationships with the key decision makers at this cellular provides.
CEOCFO:
What is your revenue model and what will the cost be to the consumer? Mr. Kaiser: This is the real value to the consumer. Because our product is a cellular communication device, it is subsidized by most wireless carriers so the cost to the consumer is minimal with an agreement for wireless services.
CEOCFO:
What is the market size as well as potential for your product and what is
the global reach? Mr. Kaiser: Our products will be sold globally. We believe there is tremendous demand for this type of product particularly in the BRIC and N-11 countries where landlines don’t exist and high-speed internet access is limited. We believe the global fixed wireless device market will exceed 250 million units this year alone. We believe there are approximately 130 million landlines in the U.S. that could be replaced with our device.
Mr. Kaiser:
We have contracted with two manufacturing facilities in Shenzhen, China.
Mr. Kaiser:
During this summer, with the help of our banker David Weinstein of Dawson
James Securities, we successfully closed a $12 million private placement.
Those funds will be used to complete the research and development of our
second-generation product and its derivative products and fund research and
development for some of our future products. We believe that we have
sufficient capital and strong financial partners to execute our product
roadmap. Mr. Kaiser: We have conducted several road shows and our investor relations firm will ensure that we conduct more in the future. We enjoy telling the story of the company to investors and sharing about the many ways our products and services can build shareholder value.
Mr. Kaiser:
We have a venerable board, solid management, a scalable business model with
great partners who have substantial market share in the telecommunications
industry. We are proud to have solid relationships with our financing
partners, distribution/logistics partners, design partners and our
manufacturing partners all of which will help us in increasing our sales.
Another reason AirTouch is a good investment is that we are in the wireless
telecommunications space and our strategic business plan will allow us to
reach customers around the world. These are the main reasons why AirTouch is
not only a good investment today, but will be a great investment in the
future as we achieve our growth milestones.
Mr. Kaiser:
Our plan for growth is three-fold: new product development, new geography
and service offerings. We have an exciting product roadmap that includes a
line of second-generation devices. Some of these products are developed for
specific customer needs, and other products will have many features to meet
consumer demands including voice, data, video, security systems and fax, all
through a more powerful cellular signal. Our highly experienced engineering
staff is developing the ultimate in a wireless home gateway device that we
think will redefine home communications. In terms of geography, we have
divided the globe. In the US, we provide a cost effective signal enhanced
alternative to landlines and broadband. Outside of the US, particularly in
the BRIC nations, N-11 countries where there is no telecommunication
infrastructure, or the area is significantly signal-challenged, we provide a
solution that offers communications and the internet using cellular signals.
Ultimately, we want our powerful hardware to be the twin-turbo engine on the
cellular highway. We believe that there are many applications for cellular
devices that are either not used or are under used, because of a weak mobile
phone signal. However, through our signal-enhanced devices, those
applications can now reach new users. We believe there is going to be
tremendous interest on the part of developers to get those applications on
our hardware.
Mr. Kaiser:
We believe that the AirTouch name communicates our mission to deliver
services and applications completely over the air, providing a sense of
freedom to our customers. |
