CEOCFO: Ms Singhal, what is ScriptoPro?

Ms Singhal: ScriptoPro is a web based learning management system and a comprehensive quiz maker, which allows trainers and instructors to develop and deliver courses and training online as well as track and report the progress of their learners. We have an engaging and intuitive interface, so that instructors and trainers can obtain their own individual accounts to use with learners. They can access their account anywhere at any time and can create courses and online quizzes in a variety of formats and publish them to the web. The customization options allow users to have immediate access to their quiz scores and instructors can input explanations to their scores. Results can be stored and collective reviews exported and printed. Our users use it in a variety of disciplines from language tests, placement tests, eLearning, needs assessment¸ professional development, web based training and so on.

CEOCFO: You said instructive and intuitive. What have you figured out to make it easier for your users?

Ms Singhal: We have a very simple interface. That is precisely what is most appealing to many as we find from user feedback, testimonials, and comments. They appreciate the fact that it is extremely easy to learn. One of the aspects we have focused on is creating an interface that is easy to navigate. There are many systems out there but they can be complex. While they have comprehensive functionality as ScriptoPro does, sometimes the look and feel of many systems creates an intimidation factor. One of the things that we have tried to do with ScriptoPro is to really maintain that comprehensive functionality, but at the same time make the tools clean, simple and easy to use.

CEOCFO: How are you able to do that when so many have not? What do you understand that perhaps others do not; either about the technology or about how people act?

Ms Singhal: I think it has everything to do with our backgrounds. I have a background in both education as well as administration, and my co-founder, Walid Sabbagh, has a background in engineering and software development. Let me approach it in two ways. I have spent over two decades in the classroom. Therefore, I am very well versed with how technology is used, both effectively and in many cases ineffectively. Walid’s technical background helped to bring both technology and pedagogy together. With this background, we were able to keep in mind what instructors want, which is ease of use when it comes to using a system, creating assessments, and housing course materials. I have been exposed to many different LMSs in educational systems and they are big and are used by thousands. There are so many factors that come into play when you are dealing with tools like that. Schools will often customize the tools and that requires not only money, but also dependence on IT staff and time. Therefore, we are providing a tool that is that is easy to use from the instructor’s perspective as well as the student’s perspective. We piloted this tool in several institutions to get students’ feedback and to make enhancements before it was actually launched. There is a real benefit there to understanding what teachers say. I have often heard the comments, “I do not use our school LMS because the way it’s configured is just too cumbersome” or “It’s too much trouble to set up and complicated.” “We don’t have enough training sessions.” Initially, when I heard those comments I thought that the same theme was recurring – comments related to the complexity of the tools. From the administrator’s perspective it takes time and resources to make changes. Teachers may provide feedback, but the IT staff is not necessarily going to be able to implement all of those or even make changes in what is considered a reasonable amount of time, whereas with the staff we have at ScriptoPro and our programmers, we are able to take that feedback and quickly implement enhancements that we think will be beneficial to many.

CEOCFO: Who is using your service in general? How are they finding you?

Ms Singhal: It has been a pleasant surprise to see who is actually using the tool. Initially, when ScriptoPro was launched we had in mind that it would mostly be used by those in education. What we have found was a pleasant surprise in that besides school districts, colleges and high schools, we have clients that include county offices, such as Collier County in Florida, for example, using it with over two thousand employees. We have the US Department of Veteran Affairs using the tool. We have community organizations, nonprofits and small businesses employing ScriptoPro. Therefore, we are now expanding use of the tool and really representing the tool so that it is appealing to many and just within education. For example, the tool includes not only a quiz maker, but also a survey maker, used by non profits for example. Therefore, that is where we are going in terms of our direction including enhancements and marketing.

CEOCFO: How are you reaching out now? How will you be reaching out to these various groups?

Ms Singhal: Many people find us online through online searches. However, we have social media experts on our marketing team creating awareness and engaging with others through email, Facebook, Twitter, and YouTube. We make it a point to support community events as seen on our social media pages as we believe online businesses need to have direct contact with the community. Supporting the community but also reaching out to these organizations to let them know what is available to them and how we might be able to serve their needs is what we enjoy doing. As people sign up for free trials it has been highly beneficial for us to see what organizations they are from. We can see where they are located and how they are using the tools. Therefore, the built-in functionality, in terms of tracking, also helps us to make improvements and we find who and how we might be reaching out to people.

CEOCFO: When someone is doing an online search what would they look for to find ScriptoPro among the crowd?

Ms Singhal: As you said, when you type in LMS a lot of things come up. Obviously, if people type in ScriptoPro the LMS will appear. However, terms like quiz maker or assessment tool or survey maker really will help people to find this particular tool. We are also starting to post more on the ScriptoPro blog to offer real practical advice on how to use the tools and what aspects of the tools might be useful to users. For example, not only is there a quiz builder, there is a course scheduler, course calendar, a survey maker and a poll maker. There is a module called Vocabulous to help with vocabulary building. Therefore, using those words and our finding our ScriptoPro blog will help people to find the tools and also learn how to use them.

CEOCFO: Are there solutions you offer that are underutilized?

Ms Singhal: Often times, one of the things I have heard in the realms of education is that you have to get used to a new system wherever you go. One of the comments we have heard from trainers who train at multiple institutions or organizations or adjuncts who might be teaching at different colleges will say, “We are expected to use the system they have; it would be nice to have something where I can have all of my content and my classes in one system, so regardless of where I am, I can access that material.” Therefore, I think that has really been a plus point for us. We hear numerous comments from adjuncts, for example, who are now using the tool at multiple locations. They can archive their materials and not have to recreate their materials for a following semester. As I said previously, it is an extremely user-friendly interface with different modules. Besides the functionality of an LMS and comprehensive maker, we include tools such as “Vocabulous” to improve academic vocabulary, and a survey and poll maker which are used by small business, nonprofits and agencies. We have provided a collection of knowledge tools that can be used in a variety of different areas and disciplines, but again really making it very, very simple to use.

CEOCFO: How is business?

Ms Singhal: Business is excellent! It is very exciting when you are dealing with a startup, and there is great satisfaction in really listening to user feedback and working with programmers to make enhancements to create even better experiences for our users. We certainly knew that it would take time to grow. We are excited to be moving in the right direction. I would have to say that nothing really compares to creating something that can be used my so many and that is actually a benefit to others. We enjoy knowing that we are helping others and also learning from others. Therefore, we continue to work on additional modules as we get feedback from users and determine where the needs are. As I said, one example of expanding the tool is language instruction and to refine training in this area here, but also abroad. It has been very good so far.

CEOCFO: What is involved in implementation? How do you help ease that process?

Ms Singhal: We provide online training so that users understand how to use ScriptoPro and the quiz maker. We take our customer questions and concerns seriously, so we are very quick to respond. Sometimes this may mean going back and forth in email a few times. Not everyone is versed with this type of technology and it is important to work with clients and to put them at ease.  We have also provided numerous videos that are available on the website as well as YouTube, and more recently have created printable instructional guides for instructors and trainers, as well as student guides that are available online. Therefore, we offer the training in a variety of formats, to make people more comfortable with it. We certainly work with individuals online one-on-one to help them get familiar with the tools. Our webinars will also begin in February 2016.

CEOCFO: You have ten core values and some of them like excellence, fun and growth are somewhat commonplace, but you have gratitude in there, which I do not see often. Why is that important for you?

Ms Singhal: I think gratitude works in a number of different ways. However, we are truly grateful to be able to work with such amazing and talented individuals in ScriptoPro to make this tool come to fruition. These include our creative programmers and social media team. We are grateful to be providing a service to others who serve like non-profits, educators, and small businesses. We are grateful that we can work with, not only a great team of people, but others in the community to help them make their goals come to fruition and also grateful for just having to be able to work in an area that is just a real passion for us and those in our teams. I think that is really where it stems from. One way of showing gratitude to our clients is not to charge per student or trainee. Our structure is one account per trainer or instructor regardless of the number of users one has. We have a client who had nineteen hundred users and subscribes to one account, which is quite different than many systems that currently exist which charge per one hundred users for example. We do not do that. We are really trying to make the tool accessible to all and this includes reaching out to other communities across the globe to make the tool available to others for a minimal cost.

CEOCFO: What surprised you as ScriptoPro has grown and evolved?

Ms Singhal: I am pleasantly surprised to see the range of users, as I said, people from all discipline areas and business areas, nonprofit and smaller agencies. We are pleased that many reach out to us on almost a daily basis that when users have a need they are reaching out to us.  It may be related to something that the tool already does and that we may not have spent enough time writing about. Oftentimes, it is a great idea that we did not think of and we can work with our programmers to implement. We work with some talented individuals so implementation time is quite quick, which is really pleasing to our users.

CEOCFO: Why is it important to incorporate ScriptoPro into your business?

Ms Singhal: It is extremely easy to use. It can allow instructors and trainers to create classes, training courses, and assessments that can be auto-graded. We include sophisticated reporting tools and in the education sector this becomes increasingly important when educators are looking at improving their courses. That is because we have spent a lot of time building in, not only automated feedback to the learners, but comprehensive reporting to the instructors and trainers or small business owners, so they can see exactly what might need to be tweaked on their end in terms of training or survey questions, for example. In the education area the tool allows for individual question analysis, allowing instructors to see and measure learning outcomes. From the learner’s side, it is extremely user-friendly. They can access their assessments on line, their course schedule and have access to their scores and their grades. Our goal is accessibility and to make life easier for users.
