Interview conducted by:

Lynn Fosse, Senior Editor, CEOCFO Magazine, Published – November 24, 2014

CEOCFO: Ms. Gerald, would you tell us the concept at Mobidox?

Ms. Gerald: The concept is building a database, which is a patient centered health data solution that will help engage patients in disease management and drug safety.

CEOCFO: There are many companies in this arena today; what is your approach?

Ms. Gerald: Other companies in this arena either go one or two ways; they are more provider centric by making things easier for patient billing and appointment scheduling, or they focus on more wellness and fitness data. What we are focusing on is disease management and what symptoms they have with their medication. This is something that is really useful especially for patients who have chronic diseases but also to the FDA and pharmaceutical companies who have to review drugs. We are taking a different approach and focusing more on the drug safety and disease management for patients with chronic diseases.

CEOCFO: How does it work?

Ms. Gerald: The system will integrate into different EHR systems either through a patient photo or directly depending upon what they like. Through their records we can organize and categorize and visual their records. The patients can have their own reported outcome. On the provider side we can take that data and do some data analytics.

CEOCFO: How would a patient provide the data?

Ms. Gerald: The patient will fill out a standard questionnaire or it could be a diary we provide for them. They type it in so they can import it that way.

CEOCFO: Why are you confident this will be helpful?

Ms. Gerald: This will be helpful mostly because is information that is necessary and they pharmaceutical companies and FDA are looking for anyway but it is not out there. This is helpful just for the patient side of managing things including their electronic record and the provider side as well to see what is really going on with the patients. The hope is that overall it will help patients better manage their diseases as they navigate the healthcare system.

CEOCFO: Where are you in the development and/or commercialization process?

Ms. Gerald: We are still under development now and have a prototype.

CEOCFO: What have you learned as you have developed?

Ms. Gerald: We look at user experience, which has to be priority. There are a lot of systems out there but if it is not easy for the patient to use then they are not going to use it. We do not want something that is too hard for the patients to have to import themselves. This is where the market is going.

CEOCFO: Would you give us an example of how the system is easy as well as engaging?

Ms. Gerald: Let’s say a patient has three different electronic records from three different providers; we would be able to import the records for them and organize everything and categorize it for them. Then we would engage the patients by offering diaries and questionnaires to help track their symptoms, medications and any side effects.

CEOCFO: Are you able to work with all the systems that doctors are using today?

Ms. Gerald: We are focusing on the systems that we already had either open API or a software development kit and we could integrate with the patient portal. From there we could offer to be the patient portal for those vendors without that capability.

CEOCFO: How are you dealing with the security issues?

Ms. Gerald: That is part of the reason we wanted to partner with a bigger company to make sure that everything is secure. It is important to me to pause and make sure what security level is out there and what we need to do to make sure it is competent and secure and not leaking any personal data. We are researching to make sure we are going to have the most up-to-date secure platform.

CEOCFO: How are finding potential partners?

Ms. Gerald: I have a few advisors that I work with and they look for them as well. I try to reach out at local events and we also will be exhibiting at the Intel Summit Conference in Washington DC in December. We are hoping that will be a great place to get our name out to help attract strategic partners.

CEOCFO: What do you bring to the table from your clinical research consulting that has been helpful as you have been developing the product?

Ms. Gerald: Just kind of understanding on the pharmaceutical side what data is needed. During clinical trials I look at all patient data in terms of what we need. Looking at the forms and how the data is received makes it easier for me to see it from that side what information is valuable and in what format they need it.

CEOCFO: How will the system be used?

Ms. Gerald: Initially it will be web based. We did a survey and saw that most people would like a web based application but after that we will definitely want to do mobile as well as well as tablet. Some people may not be as tech savvy since many are older so we want to make sure there is something web based first to help direct those users.

CEOCFO: What is not working where you see a need for your system?

Ms. Gerald: A lot of times it goes back to not only the user availability but also on the revenue side if they are going to charge a patient that is going to be hard because we are not at that place right now where patients are willing to spend a lot of money. I have seen many systems try to go after the patient to pay for it which a lot of times does not work or just making it too labor intensive for the patient. If it is too labor intensive or just not extracting valuable data then I see that as a problem.

CEOCFO: What will your revenue model be eventually?

Ms. Gerald: We want to entice the user to use it and we would want to make our money from the pharmaceutical companies other healthcare entities who are already paying for this patient-level data, just from different avenues- buying prescription data, insurance data and medical billing data. We would charge for specialized reports and analytics and incentivize the patient by offering coupons from a pharmacy. We see pharmaceutical companies, FDA and biotechnology already paying for the data that is out there so we want to provide a database with more reliable, real-time, and patient reported data.

CEOCFO: Why pay attention to Mobidox right now?

Ms. Gerald: Mobidox is different because we are not just coming from the aspects of health; it is more healthcare and more specifically disease management, drug safety and healthcare. We are a little different because we are addressing the need people do not realize. We are targeting something that is already happening and not something that we hope to happen. It is just about getting that patient-level data to those who are the big players in drug safety and management that we think is different from other companies in a similar space. By creating a universal location to house patient data and provide actionable insights in disease management and drug safety, we are transforming healthcare by providing solutions that patients, providers, and pharmaceutical companies can appreciate.
