Interview conducted by:

Lynn Fosse, Senior Editor, CEOCFO Magazine, Published – April 18, 2016

CEOCFO: Mr. Chitra, what is the general idea at CyByte?

Mr. Chitra: It is a data integration and enterprise software solutions company. Data is growing everyday with more smartphones, more smart devices. Every business is collecting more and more data and they are not acting on it. Based on our experience, what we see is that there is a fortune for businesses in data collected. We are here to help businesses dig into that data and find the fortune that can add value to their services and offerings to their customers.

CEOCFO: Are you helping companies collect data and then analyze? Are coming in to make sense of what they already have, or both?

Mr. Chitra: We can come in at any stage. There are some businesses we have helped who already collected the data and they did not know what to do or how to handle that data. There are very few businesses that see the potential in data but do not know how to collect the data so we handle both sides of the coin.

CEOCFO: Are there particular industries of focus?

Mr. Chitra: Yes. In general, we are open to many industries but we particularly work heavily with healthcare, digital marketing, and insurance.

CEOCFO: Was that a deliberate strategy or did it develop more opportunistically?

Mr. Chitra: It developed as we went along. Once we started, we saw great potential in the healthcare industry because we think that is one sector lagging behind when it comes to adapting technology.

CEOCFO: How would you engage with a healthcare firm? When would they come to you? How would you put a plan in place?

Mr. Chitra: Currently, EMR usage is being made mandatory for healthcare organizations. One of the problems with healthcare organizations is that they have multiple systems. They have a patient records management system, a billing system, and a pharmacy system. They have multiple silos, so what happens is any patient that walks into a healthcare organization has to do the same thing repeatedly with multiple departments in the same hospital, which is not efficient for healthcare organizations as well as the patient. We feel healthcare organizations should not be spending time on filling the forms and collecting the same data repeatedly. They should be focusing on delivering highest quality healthcare to the patient. When we walk in we analyze their technical infrastructure and we come up with a road map on how we can integrate the data silos, identify the gap, and ultimately make the systems talk to each other by integrating the data from different systems and creating synergy.

CEOCFO: As you are putting it together, are you able to correct some of the inefficiencies as well?

Mr. Chitra: Absolutely. That is why there are a couple of things we look at. One is how we can integrate the existing data. Also, most of the time we find gaps. We find missing pieces. Either we develop the custom solutions for those missing pieces or we get something off the shelf depending on the requirement of our customers ultimately connecting all the dots.

CEOCFO: How do you ease the implementation process?

Mr. Chitra: This is one area where we differentiate ourselves. We do not go for a big, long contract where we are going to work for two years and then roll out some big changes and scare everyone. We believe in rapid prototyping. Whatever we think is the right solution we prototype and deliver that in small chunks so that it is agile. At the same time, our customers see what is coming in small pieces rather than a big jolt. They understand what is coming better and then we gradually roll it out in an iterative manner. This is what we call agile project delivery mechanism - our implementation process. Most of the time customers think they have told us all the problems but they have not, and we discover many problems we were not told in the process of an iterative implementation. Therefore, when we deliver in small chunks we fix the problem then and there rather than waiting for a couple years and then finding the problems and then redoing the entire project. Such implementation methodology gives our customers more transparency. At the same time, any enterprise-wide system changes are coming in small amounts, which system users do not mind.

CEOCFO: How does your security operate?

Mr. Chitra: In the healthcare setting, data security is critical. What we do when it comes to security and compliance is we follow industry standards and collaborate with the industry leaders in security. We take industry standards like HIPAA, PCI and we make sure we stay compliant not after implementing a solution, but right from the beginning. Therefore, the security and compliance are built into our solutions, not on top of the solutions.

CEOCFO: What has changed in your approach over time? What have you learned as you have been working with more and more companies?

Mr. Chitra: When it comes to data integration, the sales cycle and implementation are a little longer because we have to create some awareness and educate our customers on the process. Many of them know it is important but they either do not have the resources in house or some executives have already made efforts, but it failed because the scope was too big for everybody to get onto the same page. What we have learned is that it is very important to educate or customers, create the awareness, and first tell them how our solutions and services give their company an edge before jumping into the actual business of contracts and payments. We try to be a long-term success partner for our customers rather than a one-time vendor.

CEOCFO: Do people understand the depth in the approach at CyByte when they come to you or do they realize as you are working with the organization?

Mr. Chitra: In today’s world, a lot of research is already done before we get called because prospective customers look at our website, and social footprint. Businesses have various online sources to screen us before they even speak with us. It takes multiple presentations before they either accept or not accept.

CEOCFO: What is your geographic reach today?

Mr. Chitra: Anywhere in the United States.

CEOCFO: Do you often go onsite or is it primarily remote?

Mr. Chitra: We have three modes of delivery. One is onsite. The other one is offsite which is at our office in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. For some customers who prefer some long-term solutions that are cost effective we also have an offshore option. Needless to say, some customers prefer a hybrid approach. They want to have a few people who need to talk to the customers on a daily basis and design the systems, work from onsite while the implementation actually happens offsite.

CEOCFO: What is ahead for you? What industries might you tackle next? What services might you add to the mix?

Mr. Chitra: I think we will still have a lot to do in healthcare is what we feel. Right now we are trying to do solve any healthcare problem but eventually we want to get into specific areas of healthcare, like oncology and telehealth. We are also working on solutions on how systems within a healthcare organization can be connected keeping the patient at home as much as possible to create a win-win situation both for the patient as well as the hospitals and minimize the cost of care.

CEOCFO: How do you deal with the challenge of understanding the regulations, like HIPAA, for example?

Mr. Chitra: It comes with having a great deal of experience. We have our hands on standards like HIPAA for more than a decade. It is not just HIPAA we deal with. We also have dealt with PCI, which is important for eCommerce. We work very hard to stay up-to-date with the changes.

CEOCFO: What keyword or phrase would you come up under an internet search and how would CyByte standout?

Mr. Chitra: It is a crowded market for sure. We have nailed it to general data integration services, digital solutions, and to be more precise healthcare data integration.

CEOCFO: How is business?

Mr. Chitra: Great. So far we love what we do and it has been great but there is a long way to go. I think we have a great team to deal with the possible opportunities that are ahead and we are looking forward to multiply the success we have had so far.

CEOCFO: Why choose CyByte?

Mr. Chitra: It goes back to our approach of not being a vendor. Companies should choose CyByte because we want to be your success partner. We want our customers to win so that we win. We take a partnership approach rather than just being another vendor. Businesses should choose us because we try to understand their business first and then we try to build what is important for them to succeed. So it is all about our customer and everything not just short-term. Our approach is long-term. We are also very flexible whether it comes to the delivery models or the way we work compared to our competitors.
